Cuándo te llega el mensaje / When you get the message

Te mandamos un único mensaje al día, sobre las 17:23 hora española. Puede haber pequeños retrasos puntuales (de unos minutos) según la carga de los servicios que usamos por detrás.
We send you a single message per day, at around 17:23 Spanish time. There may be occasional small delays (a few minutes) depending on the load of the services we use behind the scenes.

La fuente de datos / The data source

Cada día consultamos Open-Meteo, un servicio meteorológico gratuito, para cada mirador, playa y sitio de pernocta: nubosidad a distintas alturas (baja, media y alta), viento, visibilidad y probabilidad de lluvia, a la hora exacta del atardecer y del amanecer de ese día.
Every day we query Open-Meteo, a free weather service, for every viewpoint, beach and overnight spot: cloud cover at different heights (low, mid and high), wind, visibility and chance of rain, at the exact time of that day's sunset and sunrise.

Cómo puntuamos el atardecer y el amanecer / How we score sunset and sunrise

Las nubes bajas (cerca del horizonte) son las que de verdad tapan el sol, así que si hay muchas, descartamos el sitio directamente. Las nubes medias y altas son las que dan color al cielo — ni un cielo 100% despejado ni uno muy nublado dan los mejores colores; el punto óptimo suele estar en un término medio (nuestro sistema usa un 30-70% de nube media/alta como el rango ideal). Por eso etiquetamos cada sitio como:
Low clouds (near the horizon) are the ones that actually block the sun, so if there are a lot, we discard the spot entirely. Mid and high clouds are what gives the sky its color — neither a 100% clear sky nor a very cloudy one gives the best colors; the sweet spot is usually somewhere in between (our system uses 30-70% mid/high cloud as the ideal range). That's why we label each spot as:

• 🌟 ¡Óptimo! / Optimal! — horizonte despejado y color en el cielo
• 👍 Buen cielo / Good sky — condiciones aceptables, sin ser perfectas

Seguimos al sol de verdad, no un punto fijo / We track the real sun, not a fixed point

El sol no se pone (ni sale) siempre por el mismo sitio del horizonte: va cambiando de posición a lo largo del año según la fecha y la latitud (en Cantabria, por ejemplo, la puesta de sol se mueve entre el suroeste en invierno y el noroeste en verano). Cada día calculamos ese ángulo exacto — el azimut — tanto para el atardecer como para el amanecer, en vez de asumir siempre la misma dirección.
The sun doesn't always set (or rise) at the same point on the horizon: its position shifts throughout the year depending on the date and latitude (in Cantabria, for example, sunset moves between the southwest in winter and the northwest in summer). Every day we calculate that exact angle — the azimuth — for both sunset and sunrise, instead of assuming a fixed direction.

El banco de nubes en el horizonte marino / The sea fog bank check

A veces el cielo justo encima del mirador está despejado, pero hay niebla o nubes bajas más lejos, mar adentro, que tapan el sol antes de que llegue al horizonte — muy típico en la costa cantábrica. Por eso, para cada mirador costero, usamos ese azimut calculado (el de esa fecha concreta) y consultamos también el tiempo en 3 puntos situados a 50, 100 y 150 km de distancia en esa misma dirección — tanto para el atardecer como para el amanecer. Si hay nubes bajas en cualquiera de esos 3 puntos, te avisamos, aunque el propio mirador tenga buena puntuación.
Sometimes the sky right above the viewpoint is clear, but there's fog or low cloud further out to sea that blocks the sun before it reaches the horizon — very common on the Cantabrian coast. That's why, for every coastal viewpoint, we use that calculated azimuth (for that specific date) and also check the weather at 3 points located 50, 100 and 150 km away in that same direction — for both sunset and sunrise. If there's low cloud there, we warn you, even if the viewpoint itself scores well.

Pernocta y fase lunar / Overnight camping and moon phase

Para los sitios de pernocta valoramos poca nube y poco viento durante la noche. También te contamos la fase lunar de esa noche, y si el sitio está lejos de luces artificiales y hay poca luna, te lo señalamos como buena noche para ver estrellas.
For overnight spots we look for low cloud and low wind during the night. We also tell you that night's moon phase, and if the spot is far from artificial lights and the moon isn't too bright, we flag it as a good night for stargazing.

Surf / Surf

Consultamos la previsión marina (altura y periodo de ola) para la mañana siguiente en cada playa, y las clasificamos entre mar plano, olas suaves de iniciación, buenas olas, u olas grandes solo para nivel avanzado.
We check the marine forecast (wave height and period) for the following morning at each beach, and classify them as flat sea, gentle beginner waves, good waves, or big waves for advanced level only.

De dónde salen los sitios / Where the spots come from

Los miradores, sitios de pernocta y playas los sacamos de Google Maps y de foros y comunidades de camperistas, comprobando a mano que tengan acceso en coche/furgoneta y que de verdad sean buenos para pernoctar o para ver el atardecer/amanecer, según el caso. Es un trabajo artesanal, revisado sitio a sitio por nosotros, no generado automáticamente — pero aun así puede haber errores (un acceso que ha cambiado, una zona que ya no se puede usar, etc.). Si detectas algo que ya no es correcto, escríbenos y lo corregimos.
Viewpoints, overnight spots and beaches are sourced from Google Maps and camper/vanlife forums and communities, manually checking that each one has car/van access and is genuinely good for overnight camping or for watching the sunset/sunrise, depending on the case. This is done by hand, reviewed spot by spot by us, not generated automatically — but errors can still happen (access that has changed, an area that can no longer be used, etc.). If you spot something that's no longer accurate, let us know and we'll fix it.

Una nota honesta / An honest note

Ninguna previsión meteorológica es perfecta, y algunos avisos (normativa de aparcamiento, reservas necesarias, peligros conocidos) los mantenemos a mano y pueden quedarse desactualizados. Úsalo como una ayuda para decidir, no como la última palabra — mira siempre el cielo y la zona con tus propios ojos.
No weather forecast is perfect, and some notices (parking regulations, required bookings, known hazards) are maintained by hand and may become outdated. Use this as a helpful aid for deciding, not as the final word — always check the sky and the area with your own eyes.
